I had a call from a client who wanted to send photographs of a family event to a relative in New Zealand. The photographs had been made into a slide show which looked good and screen but was over 150 Megs in size. The client had already tried emailing them but of course the file was too big to be sent.
There are some sites which allow you to upload large files and then send a link to the receiver to allow them to download them. However 150 megs is to big for most of these free sites.
The answer was to split the file into smaller parts before uploading and sending off.
We used a free file splitter program called HJSplit to divide the file into 3 smaller parts. Each of these was uploaded to yousendit where the reciver could download from and recombine using HJsplit. The result a happy relative in new zealand.
Another favorite option is File Apartment (http://www.fileapartment.com). Easy to use, fast, no software to download or registration, up to 1 GB, free option, safe, and secure.
Binfer is a great option to send large files directly from computer to computer, without uploading to a server. You can send hundreds of files of any size with a simple drag and drop. Binfer will manage the transfers with auto resumes, encryption, notifications etc. Check it out: http://www.binfer.com
