PC for £99 or a laptop for £149

A new scheme backed by Microsoft is offering consumers in Briton PCs and laptops from just £24.

Get Online @ Home has launched today to help millions of households across the UK to get connected. The scheme is offering eligible consumers a refurbished computer for as little as £24 and broadband for £2.99 per month.

Baroness Lane-Fox, founder of Go ON UK, the charity behind the scheme said: “With the cost of internet access cited as a key reason for not being online, this is an incredible saving and will transform the lives of everyone that hasn’t been able to get online before.”

Britons on housing benefit, income support, job seeker’s allowance, pension credit and others benefits are eligible for a PC for £99 or a laptop for £149.

A special offer £75 discount for those also signing up for broadband at the same time means a Windows 7 PC with a monitor, keyboard and mouse costs just £24. The offer will last until the end of June.

Even if you’re not on one of the qualifying benefits, prices are set at £149 and £179 for a PC or laptop respectively.

The PCs and laptops, supplied by Computer Recyclers, Stone, Partners IT and other come with a minimum 2GHz processor, 60GB hard drive, a CD drive, Microsoft Office Basic and a 12 month warranty. “many devices will be better than this” said Get Online.
